Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Good day. I'm not sure of the usefulness of categories like Category:Videos from Orleans Parish, Louisiana which you created. If you didn't know, "Orleans Parish" and "New Orleans" are the same thing. If anything is needed, I'd think a redirect rather than a separate category. Or is there something I'm missing? Thanks. Oh: I know that the city of Jacksonville, Florida and Duval County, Florida are merged. However that's only been since the 1960s, so there might be some historic media that's Duval but not Jacksonville. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 02:57, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Islamic dress

Hi, Trade. I noticed that you moved Category:Girls wearing islamic dress to Category:Girls wearing islamic dresses. Aside from the fact that "islamic" should be capitalized, I don't think that was correct. "Islamic dress" means "Islamic clothing." It doesn't refer to dresses specifically. I also don't think there is such a thing as an Islamic dress (referring to dresses). Can we revert this move? -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:30, 4 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Trade

I'd like to ask you to be a little more careful when moving files. The example above has several problems.

The move should not have taken place at all, COM:FRNOT Crit 1 and 2
You do not specify a move criterion "correct capitalization" or "correct name", this isn't valid summary. It lacks the move criteria and the link that would explain why a file was moved.
If a file needs to be moved twice in a row for any reason, please change your command to Commons Delinker at User:CommonsDelinker/commands/filemovers before the bot command has been executed, or make sure to manually change the filename in the language versions. Otherwise, the filename will be stuck in Delinker. Due to the double move, the bot will not be able to find the file and therefore will not rename it in the language versions.

It's simple. You should avoid moves like "Logo" to "logo," especially if the file was created by a German user, for whom the correct spelling is "Logo" instead of "logo."
